Hang 10!

Hooray! Greg and I spent 10 days in Hawaii celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We were on Oahu for two and a half days and then we flew to Maui for a week of relaxation and sunshine. We had a spectacular time and truly enjoyed our adventures together.

I enjoyed seeing how pineapples grow, the maze was fun, but very hot, the cool and creamy pineapple ice cream at the end made it all worth it. Our first stop in Hawaii was a hit

Our spectacular view- the rolling mountain sides from our 16th story window. The cool breezes blowing through the back window and the great view made our stay very relaxing

The Laie Hawaii Temple. It truly was a paradise on earth. The grounds were beautiful, the visitor’s center was great and the view cannot be beat, you look down the palm tree lined ave. all the way to the ocean

I really wanted to visit Pearl Harbor while we were in Oahu. It was a very peaceful place where Greg and I could more fully understand and appreciate the events that unfolded on a morning that will always be remembered. As I walked around the USS Arizona memorial, I gained a deeper gratitude for all the men and women who serve and protect our freedoms. It was defiantly a special place with a special feeling.

Tired, but happy. The luau was tasty and the cultural center put on a great show. We were not allowed to take pictures during the performance, but there was lots of fire, hip action, singing and pounding of chests!!

Spacious Hawaiian roads....NOT!!! For a person who gets car sick on regular roads, our "Sunday drives" were a real treat. One lane bridges, blind corners, sheer cliffs on both sides of the road, I'm telling ya', it was a great time. This picture actually makes the road look wider than it really was. I cannot count the number of signs we passed that read- falling rocks, no guardrail, no shoulder, narrow road, one lane bridge. Yikes, and sometimes they didn't even give you warnings on the scariest and worst parts of the road!! Hey, they have post cards and shirts that announce that you have survived some of these roads. I believe that I am in need of such items.

Views like this made the scary roads a little more tolerable

We found lots of treasures to look at on our hike to the blowhole. The particular "trail" (wandering near sea cliffs and climbing up lava rock formations) made for great discoveries. This is just one of the interesting specimens I photographed. Lava rock, rocks!! ha,ha,ha.

Found it- the blowhole was great, I could have watched it all day.

Don't fall in

The Haleakala crater

Shaka! We took a horseback ride down to the center of the crater. Greg rode the pony and I rode Kai (he was also on vacation). Great horse, but very lazy and slow. The ride was amazing, my bummy was very sore and I ended up with a second degree sunburn on the front of my hands, but hey, Kai and I have a bond for life.

Ancient bamboo forest

Seven sacred pools

A beautiful view of the ocean from the bottom of the seven sacred pools

We sipped the coconut milk from the center and then Greg split it opened so we could eat the fruit. We didn't really like the taste of the milk and the fruit on the inside was not that tasty either. It was exciting to give it a try though. I enjoyed watching Greg whack at it.

Another thing we really enjoyed was the beautiful sunsets

Our last sunset in Hawaii

Only Half Please

Some may say that I'm crazy and I would have to agree. Saturday was a great day- 13.1 miles and 6 blistes later I completed a Half marathon. I was in a lot of pain when I finished, but I met all three goals I had for the race so I can't complain. I finished in under 2 hours, I didn't walk and I beat my friend who happens to be male :) I'm a little afraid though, it gave me an itch for 26...... to be continued.

Awesome race, awesome medal

Brilliance, Splendor, Majesty

We took our annual trip to Grass Valley this weekend to relax and take in all the wonders that nature has to offer. She did not disappoint!

Throwing rocks with my daddy

Just a boy and his stick- life doesn't get any better

Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park- California's largest "hydraulic" mine.

The huge water hose that was used to literally wash away the hillside is search of Gold

Hiking inside a recent landslide. We wanted to fully experience the Diggins from the inside-out
